From Me to You:
Poems of My Youth

Jeanette Shivers

Even as a young child I would conjure up stories with my imagination, sharing them with anyone who would listen. I have developed my storytelling and writing quite a bit since then, but the thrill of language and creation that I first discovered as a child has never gone away.

I am a 36 years veteran teacher who have self published Common Core: It Takes A Village, a nonfiction that addresses problems in the public school system, and  Anna, You Sure Are One Smart Cookie, a children’s book that shows how children think differently from adults, as well as served as editor for Out of the “Ville, a self published tribute to citizens from a small rural town. I have been writing professionally since 2012 and have no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

I received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with certification in Social Studies, a Master of Arts in Elementary Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in Teaching and Learning.

Get in touch if you have any comments, questions, suggestions, or just want to say hello. I will be more than happy to hear from you

ABOUT THE POEMS

Although I no longer write poems, one night I stumbled across this collection of poems that I had written during my high school and young adulthood life. For many of the poems the writing had almost faded off the paper. The poems show my growth as well as express many of the emotions that I dealt with during this time in my life. On some of the original poems I even made notes of why I wrote them. I wish to share these poems with you because they represent a developmental stage that many of us stumble through as we search to find the real us. I’m not sure if the young me would even recognize the woman I am today, because so much of that young girl I had forgotten until I reread these poems. This is not just a collection of poems, but a journey through a special stage in life. As you read From Me to You: Poems of My Youth, you will see the essence of my soul on paper

A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

An old Africa Proverbs states that “It takes a village to raise a child” and that is what our education system has to be, a village. A village that is willing to put in the time and the effort to make sure that our children receive everything they need to be successful. The village must also find ways to remove or minimize the stumbling blocks in  the educational system. A Step in the Right Direction  takes an in-depth personal realistic look at how we can make the village a stronger and cohesive agent that  provides for  the educational needs of our children. their latest releases. With numerous bestsellers and awards to their name, Jeanette, The Writer continues to push literary boundaries.
